Program Overview

The Master's degree in Computer Science can be earned in four semesters at the joint Digital Engineering Faculty of the HPI and the University of Potsdam. This consecutive Master's program is science- and research-oriented. It provides in-depth scientific foundations, advanced specialist knowledge and skills in the field of computer science, as well as advanced methodological, social, and personal skills.

The Master’s program in Computer Science can be studied without a specialization (Open Track) or with one of the specializations (tracks): “Data and AI,” “Algorithms and Foundations,” “Digital Health,” “Security Engineering,” or “Systems.”

The cross-track compulsory modules include the "Research Methods & Ethics" and "Critical Reading and Discussion" modules, which impart methodological competence in the fields of science and research. These modules are applied in the "Computer Science Lab" module, in which a selected research-related question from a track of the program is addressed in a project group. Additionally, students choose one of several practice-oriented professional skills modules, including "Design Thinking," "Entrepreneurship and Innovation," or "Management and Leadership."
